Kang Xu is an MRS Fellow, ECS Fellow, and an emeritus ARL Fellow. After retiring from the US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) with 26 years in federal service, he joined SES AI in August, 2023, and serves as its Chief Scientist. Kang is one of the world leading researchers in electrolyte materials and interfacial science. He has published more than 350 papers in this field, with an h-index of 118, and has been recognized with many awards for the discovery of new electrolyte materials as well as understanding of the fundamental mechanisms. Among his publications, he is best known for the two comprehensive reviews on electrolytes published at Chemical Reviews in 2004 and 2014, respectively, and the book “Electrolytes, Interfaces and Interphases: Fundamentals and Applications in Batteries”, which have been regarded as desk top references by the researchers in the field.
